Whiskey Creek: Reviews & Ratings

History: The Kittie Lee Inn was built in 1924 and was considered to be the height of luxury. During Hollywood’s heyday of filming movies in the High Sierra, almost all of the great stars stayed here at one time or another. Will Rogers, Randolph Scott, Hop-a-long Cassidy, Cary Grant, John Wayne, Bing Crosby, Curly Fletcher and Pat O’Brien are just a few of the names found in the old guest register. Many of the executives of the U.S. Vanadium Mine, a Tungsten Mine up Pine Creek, along with Wah Chang of the Blackrock Mine were also guests here. The Ohio Buckeye tree you see planted in the deck of the front door of the gift shop at the Whiskey Creek Restaurant was brought here in 1924 from Ohio and still bears buckeyes every fall. During World War II, the Kittie Lee dining room was closed and used as a dormitory for U.S. military pilots training at the Bishop Airport. After the war, the dining room was remodeled and reopened as the Copper Kettle Coffee Shop, which was known far and wide for its excellent food and extensive Royal Doulton Toby Jug Collection. The Kittie Lee Inn was torn down in 1965 to make way for a new dinner house known as the Carriage Room. Its Bar, Charlie’s Room, remained in operation. In 1976, Sam and Shelly Walker purchased the business from Will Whorff, son of the original owner of the Kittie Lee, and changed the name to Whiskey Creek. In 1999, the Walkers sold the business to its new owner, Greg Alexander….and a new era began.

This folks know how to fix a steak the filet was perfectly spiced and charred on outside and juicy inside and the au gratin potatoes are to die for! The service I received from everyone was exceptional. Friendly fast service, and attentive. I could go on and on! five stars all the way.

Overall a solid experience here. We had the pad Thai, and chicken Rama, as well as the onion rings, whiskey creek fries, and salmon carpaccio for an appetizer. The onion rings were great. Amazing. The fries were really good, but the salmon carpaccio has way too much balsamic vinegar and I wouldn’t recommend it. The chicken rama was delicious and I would recommend it again, just ask for more peanuts or peanut sauce. The pad thai was also good but the chicken Rama was better. Our server was Kayla and she did a fantastic job with recommendations, taking care of us, and making sure that everything was to our expectations. I would definitely come here again for the Thai food at least!

Delicious food! Hit the spot. I was so grateful for the "kids portion" of fettuccine Alfredo with chicken as I would not have been able to finish the whole adult size after indulging in the delicious artichoke dip. Excited to come back again and try some steak. Hubby enjoyed the cashew chicken noodle meal and said spice level 3 out of 4 was perfect for him. Also our server was delightful. Extremely professional and good at her job. Kept our drinks filled and was patient and helpful.

We're on vacation and we chose this place because it was a warm dining experience. The only other options out there were bar and grills, fast food restaurants, South of the border foods and a few Asian. I posted a couple pictures of what we ordered, the food that we were getting was a four cheese linguine topped with chicken and a kids chicken strips with fries. Whiskey Creek also offered a Thai fusion page in their menu along with live music. The saxophone player is also offering happy birthdays for customers. We were very satisfied with the food. Also, it's a kid friendly restaurant.

We love coming back to Whiskey Creek when we're in Bishop! The rib eye steak +sides were wonderful, although the Pad Thai wasn't quite up to its favorable self (but still good). Our waiter forgot to bring me a soda water~ overall, a nice evening outside on the deck.

We were visiting Bishop as a small family reunion trip. We had just finished a photo shoot that took wayyy longer than anticipated. We walked in 30 min before closing, a group of 12 and starving. They were also the only place still open that evening. We knew they were probably not happy to see us walk in. Understandably so, ha! However, they seated us and our server was great. He promptly took our drink orders and we decided on our food quickly as we knew the kitchen was trying to close and clean up. We all ordered something different... I had the salmon, it was cooked perfectly. The only thing is I didn't read on the menu that it was served with sweet potato chips. I wasn't a fan of that option, I thought there could've been a better option. Other than that, we all really enjoyed our food and drinks from the bar were on point delicious. Totally recommend the old fashion. The whole experience was very nice. The restaurant is big and nicely decorated, felt very warm and welcoming. The staff were so gracious even though we knew we were a bit of an inconvenience. If you've ever worked in the service industry, you know that's the last thing you want to see come in at 30 min before closing! We were so appreciative, the food was really really good, everyone enjoyed their orders. We did not linger, but we didn't feel rushed to hurry hurry either. We were tired from our long photo shoot so we were ready to get back to the hotel, happy with full bellies. We stayed in Creekside, it was a great place to stay as well. We highly recommend this restaurant for the service, food and atmosphere. If we lived closer I'd be happy to go back again and again. They were very accommodating.
